Day 311 - Vietnam in lomo

I picked up the roll of film I dropped off yesterday, and discovered that Vietnam looks great in lomo! The lo-fi aesthetics and the noise captures the grittiness of Hanoi so well. I'm taken back to...

Street corners with framed pictures of their beloved Uncle Ho,

There were some other goodies in the roll too, like this Singaporean cat,

And being very excited to be lining up for Laduree macarons.

But I think the best photo in the roll is this one hands down!

Day 265 - Taylor with a smiling koala, pretty flowers, Lomography and mini LC-A

I love...

...this adorable photo on Taylor's Instagram of him holding a koala. The koala has a smile on its face!

...these insanely pretty flowers that are adorning Swanston St. Me likey! They made me so happy that I jumped up and down and clapped like a 4 year old at the sight of them!

...Lomography. (But I don't love crappy photos taken with Lomo cameras being passed off as being "artistic Lomography". A shit photo is a shit photo, Lomography is not an excuse! Grrr)

...that my LC-A now has a mini me.

Day 229 - Lomo love

I got a roll of film developed today. Further to the reasons mentioned last time I got a roll developed in February (it took me 6 months to finish up a roll?!?), everytime I get my photos back I'm transported to near and far away places.

Such as to cute nearby brunch spots...

Crates on a wall
To the cool Chancery Lane in Bendigo... Wall art in Hobart
To the top of foggy Mt Wellington in Hobart, Tasmania...

To Sydney's laneways and its serene Chinese garden...

And to places that I don't even remember!
Everyone loves music
The LC-A, with its poorly made manufacturing of cheap plastic inside and outside, contributing to light leaks, fuzziness and at times disgustingly out of focus candids... also produces unpredictable, random yet intense vignetting, insane contrast colours that I fall over and over, head over heels in love with.

One particularly blurry photo on this roll caught my eye. 2 fun facts about me:

1. Blurry photos usually annoy me, and
2. My eyesight is shit.

I have one good eye and one shit eye, together they give me shitty but not that shitty near-sighted eyesight. I struggle to make out text that's more than 1m away from me, I can't see faces unless they're about less than 2m's away, and I often make strange remarks, "hey why is there a black cat on the table? Can you bring cats here? Ohh it's a scarf...".

Through my eyes, the world is a hazy palette of soft, coloured blobs. This sounds really wanky, but I recognise things (and people) by associating shapes, forms and movement characteristics, and it's always been challenging when I try to explain why I can see when I can't see, and what I actually see.

Well, this is pretty much it:

Day 58 - Lomo Redscale love and cute bear shaped buns

Today, I got a roll of redscale film developed. The super-saturated bursts of red, orange and yellow make my eyes hurt!

Shooting with film really appeals to me (and always amuses me) for a number of reasons - its so nostalgic, I love that you have to wind your film with every frame and then manually wind up the roll at the end of it; I love the mystery of not knowing whether the shot will come out well; I love all the technique and non-technique that go into photographing with film; I love the graininess and lo-fi, retro feel the photos give; I love the unpredictability; but most of all, I love how I spend so long finishing up a roll of film that by the time I finally do and develop it, I come across and relive all these moments and memories I had captured months ago and had forgotten about.

Like Snowflake gazing out into the big, bad world in wonder...
Peering out into the big wide world

...to having lunch at The Pour Kids on a lazy afternoon, where they have dishes with comical and adorable names like "Google this", "Duck for cover", "The Lego", and "Piggy in the middle"...

On another note, I stumbled upon something incredibly cute....

Bear shaped buns! They're sooo adorable, I can feel my innards combusting just by looking at them!
