Day 253 - Fresh clean sheets

Fresh, crisp sheets that are still warm out of the drier make me happy. But they make Snowflake a little bit crazy!

Day 252 - My cute niece and homecooked dinner at Keng's

My niece likes to do this thing that I find incredibly adorable. I've tried capturing it on camera a few times but failed - she becomes conscious of the camera that's staring right at her and begins desperately wanting to play with it (she's been exploring different textures recently). Basically what it is is every time I put her in her high chair and pop into the kitchen to prepare her food, when I look up at her over the counter she always waves gleefully at me. It's such a silly little thing, but I find it sooo cute!

Today, with Brett there to do all the waving, I managed to get a couple of quick snaps.
Hello!
Hiya
After a full day of babysitting, we headed over to Keng's for a homecooked meal.

And with all the wonderful food and equally (if not even more) wonderful wine, surrounded by amazing views of twinkling lights and free flowing conversation till 3am in the morning, I couldn't help but think to myself - life is pretty darn good.

I also fell in love with a "fruity notorious black tea"!

Day 251 - 1 more week to Hanson!

I was relaxing at home with Snowflake after a long week at work...

...when it suddenly dawned on me that I'll be seeing Hanson this time next week!!!

It's been 7 long years since Hanson's last Australian tour. I cranked up some Hanson tunes and couldn't help but have the biggest, silliest perma-smile as I thought about Hanson's Thinking 'Bout Somethin' music video (what's better than singing Hansons? DANCING HANSONS!) that I absolutely love. The dancing, the homage to The Blues Brothers, Ike's beard, Taylor's Ray Charles impersonation, ALL THAT DANCING, the goofiness, the bloody infectious song itself, Weird Al Yankovic's cameo appearance and hilarious over-the-top tambourine playing... it's just impossible to watch this without smiling through the entire thing!

Excuse me while I revert back to my 13-year-old self!

Day 250 - Random things

Here are a few (really random) things that made me smile:
  1. Booking done, Momofuku here we come!

  2. Finding out that someone's absolute favourite piece of literature is a children's book called The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew it was None of His Business.

  3. Apparently the storyline consists of a little mole who gets pooped on while coming out of his hole, and sets out on a mission to discover the identity of the mysterious pooper. All the animals he runs into show him their differently sized poop to prove that they're not the culprit, and when he finally finds out whodunit, he seeks revenge by pooping on their head, before returning happily to his hole!!

  4. Learning from a bunch of worldly engineers about a drink named 'snakebite', which was a mixture of strong lager and cider to produce a concoction that makes you behave like a lunatic before spewing everywhere. Stories of backpackers drunk on snakebite climbing up walls and chutes were regaled, followed by a personal recollection by Marc of how he blacked out for 40 minutes during new year's eve in London after a snakebite bender, that the only explanation would be that he fainted while standing up!

  5. Being caught in the heavy downpour after Wang Wei's farewell drinks. When you're stuck in rain that's coming down like someone had just tipped over a gigantic bucket of water over your head, what else can you do but laugh?

Day 249 - Mom's ok, old friends and surprised Snowflake

Today's smiles are from:
  1. Finding out that Mom is ok and unscathed after she got into a car accident. More like a big smile of relief. Kids, always wear your seatbelt.

  2. Catching up with an old friend like Wang Wei just like old times, and laughing over his endless supply of hilarious stories over beer and cheap and cheerful Thai takeaway. There were tales about funny, undecipherable colleagues, to a human-hating ragdoll cat named Sunshine who took a massive dump in Wang Wei's bed (under the comforter!), then left an even bigger pile of crap in the middle of the walkway in front of the door after Wang Wei caused her great distress while attempting to communicate using this Human-to-Cat-Translator app

  3. This!

Day 248 - A good dinner is made of...

Lovely company and dining companions? - Yup. Wang Wei the brilliant storyteller, the eclectic and whimsical Kerry, and fun-times Aaron.

Good food? - Oh yes, dinner was at Chin Chin. Pork roll ups, spanner crab with chilli jam resting on a betel leaf, the insanely spicy duck liver salad...

Were there drinks: - Plenty of wine. My head hurt afterwards.

Was there dessert? - But of course! Kerry and I shared grilled banana roti bread with sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon sugar. Mmmmm condensed milk, I don't think you know how much I love you!

Conversational topics? - All over the place, as usual! There were discussions of how the invention of soap marked the beginning of civilisation, monkey piss, MC DRS' "I don't usually like MC's, but...", countries where beer is cheaper than water, the Paralympics.... I can't remember what else, the wine erased the rest!
